Runnin’ on Empty? Eat Breakfast!

Related to our last post on “slowing down” as it relates to spiritual, mental and physical health in ministry, have you noticed?  A lot of us are too busy doing the “90 mph with our hair on fire” thing to even eat breakfast.  We whiz out of the house in the morning at warp speed, our heads filled with All The Stuff I Gotta Do today.  We’re so busy we don’t even have time to eat right.

While skipping breakfast may seem like it gives you a head start on your day, it doesn’t.  In fact, it does just the opposite, turning our bodies down when they need to be fueled up.  (Oh yeah.  A swig or two of coffee plus a donut isn’t “breakfast.”   Puh-leeze!)  Breakfast doesn’t have to be elaborate or time-consuming, but it does need to be healthy if you want to get the most out of your day.

We came across an article on Best and Worst Breakfast Cereals the other day.  In our “on the run” society, many people choose  cereal as their breakfast of choice.  Cereal is quick and easy.  But choose with care.  Not all cereals are created equal.

This brief article tells us why mom was right – always eat breakfast. It also explains how a good breakfast – even a quick one – can give you a real jump start on the rest of your day and make you more productive in the long run.   What Children’s Pastor couldn’t use that?

Now turn off the computer and grab a glass of milk and an apple!
